ABOUT US

A glimpse into our history and how we are a part of this growing community. FASA Modern (Fasmode Dance Crew) based at Cal State Northridge shares the same origins and with the other “Modern” dance teams. Not knowing it at the time, but we were the pioneers of the dance community in the San Fernando Valley. While there were precursors to FM being Tech 4ce and S.T.O.R.M. Troopers in '96 and '98 respectively, it wasn’t until four members of CSUN FASA Ven, Faith, Toni Rose, and Rachel created FASMODE in 2002. But it was the Original Legends Joe Gravina, Ryke Reyes, Merriliz Monzon, and myself (Mitch Lozada) who are attributed as our company Founders. That’s because in 2006, in a time when our team lost all its members we four remaining leaders decided upon ourselves to reconstruct FM into what it is today. By this time we already obtained our organization’s charter, got school funding, gain campus recognition, and laid down the foundations of traditions and ceremonies. Pushing forward a heavier hand in our development was cultivated by Gravina and myself as we created our core values, written regulations, produced our own showcases, and made events that still continue today.

Up until 2010 we were primarily an exhibition team. Much of our achievements reflected how outstanding our organization was and the events we produced rather than being a dance team. Presently, as the premiere dance team at CSUN, our new generation of members are working hard and hustling to put our name forward as they are participating in more collegiate community events and competitions. With all that, I’m a proud founder. I’m proud of what we have accomplish together overtime and our legacy thus far. I have faith in this family. To the larger Socal community we may be an underdog or lesser known property but through blood, sweat, and tears we too will be victors.

Mission First, Family Always

Executive Director/President

Katherine Gee

Katherine has been on the team since Fall 2017. In the Spring of 2018 after a semester on the team she became Artistic Director and now for Fall 2018 she is the team's new Executive Director. She has a hand in choreography, vision and leadership. Her favorite style of dance is hyphy and crowd moving. “ I really love the musicality and technicality of dance, but being able to merge that with both creativity and being back breakingly full out is what makes life worth living. In truth, I am in love with music. Dance is just a way for me to worship it. No matter whether I am teaching or leading a practice, I will always be a student first. There is always room to improve and evolve, in all aspects of life as well.”

Vice President

Shari Coleman

Shari has been on the team since Spring 2017. She became the Vice President/Marketing Director her second semester of being on the team. The styles that she likes to do the most would have to be between Tap and Hip Hop. "Yes I know that “Hip Hop” is a subjective term but I love every sub category, even in the ones that I may be weaker in because I love learning new ways to tell my story. One of the most important things about any style you do is to make sure you’re having fun and expressing your own inner story big or small."
